Developmental English Classes - English 22
Course Goals
English 22 students complete a portfolio of their writing which is reviewed by more than one instructor. This process gives students a firm understanding of their strengths and weaknesses in writing before they go into English 100.
English 22 assists students in understanding the writing process and in shaping their ideas into effective essays.
Learning Objectives
Upon successful completion of ENG 22, the student will be able to:
- Gather information.
- Explore ideas.
- Clarify thoughts.
- Develop a thesis and support it.
- Organize information.
- Revise, edit, and proofread accurately.
- Learn to write narrative, analytical, and persuasive essays that are two or more pages long, focused on a central thesis, adequately supported, and logically divided into paragraphs.
- Learn to write essays suited for various purposes and audiences.
- They also learn to find, evaluate, and document information from various sources and integrate it into an essay without plagiarizing.
- They edit and proofread their written work, and demonstrate time management, reading, and word processing and study skills necessary in the writing process.
- They learn to write clear, accurate, and objective summaries and analyses of essays and articles.
- Finally, they analyze in-class essay exam questions and organize and write a response.
