Academic Advising and Counseling at KCC

Why See A Counselor?

Counselors at Kapi`olani Community College work with students to help them to find the best path to reach their goals and be successful. Counselors provide:

  • program advising
  • academic planning
  • transfer planning
  • career exploration and planning
  • learning assistance
  • personal counseling.

Through this counseling you can get help to attain your educational, career and life goals, and to promote self-development and personal awareness. When something in your life comes up that blocks your path, it may be a good idea to see a counselor.

Counseling is a process of sharing thoughts and feelings in confidence with someone who is objective and a good listener. Counselors help students by discussing new approaches to solving a problem, by giving needed information, through referral to a helpful organization in the community, by helping to clarify thoughts and feelings, or just through listening.

You are encouraged to go to the Academic Advising and Counseling page to read over information which covers college policies and procedures, services and resources, and help with charting your academic plans. If you need assistance, contact your counselor.

Visit the Mental Health and Wellness page for a a list of resources to promote emotional and mental health. If you have questions or want to talk about any of these issues, please contact a counselor.
