TRIO Student Support Services (TRIO-SSS)
TRIO-SSS helps students succeed in academics, attain their educational goals, or transfer to a four-year educational institution. The program is funded by the U.S. Department of Education.
Eligibility
Students are eligible for TRIO-SSS, if they are enrolled at Kapiolani Community College (KCC) and:
- working toward a degree at KCC or transferring to a four-year college or university need academic support
- are a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident
- meet one or more of the following criteria:
- qualify for KCC financial aid or meet the Federal TRIO Programs Annual Low Income Levels (see the Related Links section),
- are a first generation student in college (neither parent has a baccalaureate degree), or
- have a documented disability

Services Provided
Perhaps the most important service is assignment to one of our counselors. Together, you and your counselor will work toward the attainment of your educational goal. Your counselor will provide guidance and strategies for academic success and will assist in the transition from high school to college or from KCC to a 4-year university.
TRIO-SSS provides the following services:
- Academic progress monitoring
- Personal and career counseling
- Academic advisement
- Assistance in completing the UH System Application form and Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) (see the Related Links section)
- Workshops to enhance academic success
- Computer lab with assistive technology
- Laptop computer loans
- College Success (IS 103) course to assist in college transition
- Cultural enrichment and social activities
- Hui Hoaloha, a student support organization
Services to Faculty
We assist faculty to better understand the needs of students who are the first generation in their family to attend college, are low-income, or who have disabilities.
